A Prayer for Today

 

God, when life is busy, when decisions are hard,

When I just don’t want to face one more thing,

Give me strength for today.

Give me calm with which to face my anxieties.

Give me focus for my studies.

Give me an open heart to hear someone else’s point of view.

Give me patience to hear repeated what someone already said to me before.

Give me energy for the race.

Give me motivation to move toward the goals you have given me.

 

And God, here’s the deal.  I have asked a lot, and you give me so much. 

I give you thanks for food.

I give you gratitude for my blessings.

I give you thanks for all the people who love me.

I give you my attention

so that you can let me know what I need to hear,

and I can follow through with what you ask.

Thank you God.

A Prayer for This Nation

 

God, in too many ways this nation is in trouble.

People are getting laid off from work.

Stores that we have counted on are closing, which leaves more people without jobs.

We pray for graduating seniors who are going to have a hard time finding jobs.

We pray for people who, suddenly, don’t have a paycheck.

We pray for children, families and persons who need food and shelter.

 

We don’t have much to offer to help such big problems, but we offer these prayers and ask your help, O God.    Amen.
