Dear Friend,

Two young women pushed strollers and towed toddlers past grocery aisles in the PX.  In two days their soldier husbands would come home.  I watched the faces of soldiers and it was not hard to see who had been to war.

At Wesley Foundation Ministries serving San Diego State University, we are launching ambitious new programs to welcome veterans and a new generation of college students—new programs for a new day.

As a member of the board and as a pastor, I see that these are times of rapid change.  I accompanied our Director, the Rev. Dr. Beth Cooper, on a recent visit to a military base in Germany where I saw for myself how young the soldiers and their spouses are and learned what they need when they return to the U.S.

When their tour of duty is over, some veterans are coming to our campus.  We hope to target new services to this group.  Our ministry teaches diversity and reaches students from many backgrounds.

We have growing pains.  We are developing programs for low income students and students with PTSD and ADHD.  Our ministry goal is to help these students reach their full potential and earn a degree.

The Rev. Beth Cooper oversees campus ministry outreach.  She is directing new programs for spiritual direction, devotions, retreats, and community service.

Lynn Jenkins Feinberg, M.S., M.F.T., who has given thirty years of service with counseling and disability services at SDSU, is helping us open the new Hayes Academic Success Center programs. Each student will have an opportunity to receive peer mentoring and individual counseling and to attend life skills classes.

We need to raise $8,000 a month for our campus ministry programs.  These will be supported by people like you.

Wesley Foundation asks you to step forward and make a two year pledge right now!  Several key persons have promised the first $1,000 per month.  Every size contribution will help.  A chart shows what your pledge can provide.

Please reply to this email indicating the pledge that you will make.  God bless you for reaching out to extend God’s blessing to students at SDSU!

Sincerely,

The Rev. Dr. Alice Knotts
